Millennials are born between 1982 and 2002. Because they've been raised with and by digital technology,
their minds are actually different from people who are older.
They have different expectations, beliefs, needs, challenges, and strengths. Therefore, parents,
grandparents, teachers, and pastors are often confused and concerned. Methods that used to motivate or
interest them no longer do. Children, teens, and young adults seem more judgmental, impatient, and bored than
ever before. Why? What needs to change?
In Dr. Kathy's engaging and popular seminars about Millennials,
she explains how eight types of technology influence them. During these explanations, audience members have many
"ah-ha" moments as they begin to see why their Millennials believe what they do and behave the way they
do.
The effect of these technology toys and tools are
discussed:
Computers
Video/online gaming
I-Pods and
I-Tunes
DVDs/movies/TV/cable
Internet and the World Wide Web Cell
phones
Digital
Cameras
Social Networking
After the thought-provoking and engaging overview of these specific types of technology, Dr. Kathy will elaborate
on the practical points she introduced. The amount of detail and
which practical applications are emphasized depends upon the audience, goals you have for hiring her, and the
amount of time.
For instance, because of technology's influence, Millennials:
think they can have what they want when they want
it,
think they deserve the best and that the world revolves
around them,
think they deserve choice,
think they deserve to win,
may struggle with authority,
decide quickly that they're bored,
are impatient and often struggle to focus and
persevere,
prefer to multi-task,
use some ineffective problem-solving and decision making
strategies,
are curious and can easily hold diverse ideas,
are easily influenced by friends,
want knowledge to be current, instantly available, and
personally relevant,
prefer to construct knowledge rather than be instructed,
and
are especially lacking in five key skills Dr. Kathy will
explain and teach.
As the connection to technology is made, applications
to learning, motivation, obedience, and all of life will be included. How to communicate, teach, and love
Millennials in light of these realities will be considered. When speaking in churches and Christian schools, Dr.
Kathy includes applications to spiritual and church growth.
