Authentic Answers to Life-Changing Questions

What challenges do you and your students face? Are there bullies on your campus? Do you know some who use drugs or alcohol? Maybe you have general problems with discipline, motivation, cliques, and academic apathy. If so, this message about students’ five core needs of security, identity, belonging, purpose, and competence may provide the hope they need to change. It’s equally beneficial for students who haven’t gotten involved in at-risk activities. Peace in the midst of turmoil and hope despite challenging circumstances are possible when students have authentic answers to life-changing questions representing each core need: Who can I trust? Who am I? Who wants me? Why am I alive? What do I do well? Dr. Kathy will provide healthy answers to these questions and share why these needs are important, why the order is significant, and how the questions and their answers are interlocking and interactive. Click on Authentic Answers for more information on this topic. [public school and Christian (with the title “Authentic Hope”); elementary, 45-60 minutes; middle school and high school, 45-75 minutes; In Christian settings, this talk also divides easily into five separate talks of 45-60 minutes each for a week’s worth of programming.]

Eaglelike Excellence

Have any of your students gotten lazy? Have they stopped striving for more? Has mediocrity set in? Excellence is possible and important! From the study of eagles, students will be reminded that they need eaglelike courage, energy, strength, hope, and vision in order to achieve excellence. They’ll discover who have been “eagles” for them and how they can be “eagles” for others. They’ll be inspired to engage more fully in all of life and there will be many benefits. [Christian, middle school and high school, 45-60 minutes]

The Following Formula

Jesus Christ calls to each of us, “Come, follow Me.” But, some of us think more about following God’s commands than following God. That’s a mistake. Jesus says, “Follow Me.” But, how? What’s the following formula? In rich detail Kathy will explain three decisions that must be made in order to fully follow Christ. This relevant and important message will meet students’ needs wherever they are on their spiritual journey. They will be encouraged and challenged to further spiritual maturity. [Christian, middle school and high school, 2-3 hours (ideal for a series of chapel talks)]

How Am I Smart? A Guide to Multiple Intelligences

Too many children and teenagers ask the wrong questions: “Am I smart?” and/or “How smart am I?” It’s more valuable and appropriate to ask and answer the question, “How am I smart?” Kathy thoroughly enjoys presenting this program because the content is so encouraging for everyone. To answer the question, “How am I smart?” the eight intelligences all students have will be explained. Students will understand which ones are their strengths, how to think in all eight ways, and the benefits of using all eight intelligences when learning and studying anything. This understanding can also help students think about what to do after graduating from high school. Not only will students (and teachers) be encouraged, they will better understand themselves and each other. (For example, word smart students think with words and learn well by reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Logic smart students think with questions and learn well by reasoning through issues, analyzing through cause/effect thinking, and solving problems.) [public school and Christian; elementary, 45-60 minutes; middle school and high school, 45-75 minutes]] For more information see How Am I Smart?

Miracles Matter

Dr. Kathy will inspire each student to believe they are unique, one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-seen-again, unrepeatable miracles created on purpose with a purpose. Because students who believe this are more willing to strive to develop their talents, this truth is significant to their present and future. Other related accurate and positive answers to the “Who Am I?” identity question will be shared. [public school and Christian; elementary, 45 minutes; middle school and high school, 45-60 minutes]

Under the Influence

One of the most important decisions high school students need to make is who to listen to. They’re influenced by many people and many sources. Becoming skilled followers is important! Students will be asked questions such as these: Who are you listening to? Who is influencing you? What would you benefit from learning? Who do you know who can help you learn this? They will learn a very practical, revealing, and enjoyable method of regularly asking and answering these key questions. Kathy will explain why she listens to the voices she listens to and students will be invited to share, as well. [public school and Christian; high school, 45-60 minutes]
